How we took inspiration from business tours, networked with like-minded people and successfully founded our two companies in Estonia.

Our Estonia Story
06.11.2019: Our journey of discovery begins at the JCI World Conference in Tallinn. The motto Digital Innovation Days. What is supposed to happen?
01.03.2020: The next business tour is to Silicon Valley. Company visits, networking, exchange – taking impulses with you is the goal.
12.08.2021: I, Mario, start the company Anyflexo with my Co-Founder Florian, the first digital marketplace for printing consumables. Where? In Tallinn, Estonia. How? On-line. Ready to go in 2 days with VAT ID. Why?
06.09.2022: The move of our Specialty Coffee Roastery Flatberry. The last pallets are on their way to Tallinn. What happened before:
Today: We, Sabrina and Mario, have been living in the beautiful Hanseatic city for a while now and are happy to share our experiences.
Countries really can’t be all that digital. The first irritation began on the bus when our smartphone suddenly vibrated and reminded us to pay – contactless payment is made here via NFC – okay, not bad. Then the pitch from e-Estonia: start a business in 20 minutes, income tax return in 3 minutes, all communication with the authorities via digital portals. All government websites in three languages. No, it’s clear – until then we only knew poststelle@xyz.de in Germany.
Fast, unbureaucratic, easy. In Germany, Florian and I, Mario, founded Innova Flexo Products over several weeks and personal appointments with a notary. We only received the VAT ID in Germany after four months – of course only after repeated requests from our tax consultant.
We dealt intensively with Institution for Economic Development and the development of our network in Estonia and then founded our Flatberry Specialty Coffee Roastery – everyone should have as a hobby – and decided to move. A production facility was quickly found. Communication was easy, because everyone speaks English, including all the authorities, and here, too, the foundation was completed within a very short time. The organic certification worked really well here too, personal contact and cordial communication.
We have been living in the beautiful Hanseatic city for a while now and share our experiences to bring entrepreneurs closer to the power of innovation and less hassle with administration. The residence registration went online in 3 minutes. You don’t need to live here to start a business. Florian, from Innova and Anyflexo, lives in Germany! How it works? You can find out from us.

How do I set up a company in Estonia or how do I move my company?
It’s so simple it seems unreal. To set up a business, you apply for e-residency. With the e-Residency card you can log in to the register and set up a company. Choose a name, choose the field of your business activity and register the company. Open a bank account. Depending on the company’s activity, special licenses may be required. You will be informed about this. Make your shareholder contribution directly online. You will usually receive the register entry within 1-2 days. Approx. 1-2 days later you will receive the VAT number after the application, usually after you have been entered in the register. Employees – not shareholders – are to be registered in the Employee Registry – online, of course.

How do I get the e-Residency?
You can do that via this link (e-resident.gov.ee/become-an-e-resident). You will then receive a message from the Police and Border Guard Control when you can collect your blue e-Residency card from the Estonian Embassy. Before that you pay a fee of about 120 euros. You can choose where. This can be in Berlin, for example, in Germany. If you live close to other countries, it’s worth checking. Alexander picked up his e-residency card in Brussels.
